From one large palace to another. This season, the International Contemporary Art Fair leaves the nest. And the majestic glass roof of the “historic” Grand Palais, to cross the Seine. A heartbreak for many, a necessary evil for others. While the museum, directed by Chris Dercon, is getting a makeover until 2024, the new structure of the Champ-de-Mars takes over to host major Parisian events. After the Art Paris fair which wiped out the plasters last September, Fiac in turn invests the 10,000 m2 of the ephemeral Grand Palais (GPE) designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte. This large cross with a whitish dome, which panicked more than one resident of the Military School district at the time of its construction, is receiving the very best of contemporary art without a fair in 2020.
