The popular holiday island of Crete is once again hit by an earthquake, and the violent tremors can even be felt in neighboring Turkey.
Heraklion - Just last week, a seaquake near Crete had startled the people, even 400 kilometers away in the Greek capital Athens, the tremors were felt.
Now another seaquake has occurred off Crete, this time the tremors were even felt in Turkey.

With a magnitude of 6.1, the quake shocked people on the Greek island of Crete, it occurred on Tuesday morning at around 8:30 a.m. local time.
The center of the quake was about 130 kilometers southeast of the islands of Crete and Karpathos in the middle of the sea.
The Turkish disaster control authority Afad also reported earthquakes around 155 kilometers away, and the south-western coast of Turkey had also felt the seaquake.

So far, however, nothing is known about damage, injuries or even fatalities.

Since the quake occurred at a depth of around 58.5 kilometers, there is no danger of a tsunami for the coasts.
However, the expert confirmed that the renewed quake once again highlight the currently increased seismic activity in this region.
Only last week a seaquake of magnitude 6.3 hit Crete, and the tremors could be felt as far as Athens.
A similar earthquake in Crete in September even killed a person.
