The Saxon State Opera Dresden mourns the death of the soprano Edita Gruberová at the beginning of the week. Her death was a loss for the opera world, said director Peter Theiler on Tuesday in the Elbe city. The exceptional artist, admired for “her sensual interpretation, her virtuoso coloratura technique and her work in the art of singing, especially the works of Bellini and Donizetti”, will always be remembered as “a unique Belcantist”.
Dresden - The native Slovak, who lived in Zurich, Switzerland, died on Monday at the age of 74.
From 2004 to 2011 she made several guest appearances at the Semperoper and, among other things, delighted in title roles such as “Lucrezia Borgia” or “Anna Bolena”, recalled Theiler.
Her first appearance in the Elbe city as Zerbinetta in the Richard Strauss opera “Ariadne auf Naxos” during a guest performance by the Vienna State Opera will also remain unforgettable.
