Three other regions in Thuringia have slipped into warning level two of the corona early warning system.
In addition to Schmalkalden-Meiningen and Hildburghausen, the districts of Saale-Holzland, Greiz and the city of Gera are now in the second warning stage, as the Ministry of Health announced in Erfurt on Tuesday.
When warning level two is triggered, stricter corona measures can be associated.
Erfurt - The district of Kyffhäuser is currently in warning level three, which has a seven-day incidence of 236.7 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week.
The nationwide occupancy of intensive care beds with Covid-19 patients - one of the critical factors for triggering warning levels - fell on Tuesday just below the important threshold of 6.0 percent, to 5.9 percent.
If this value is above 6.0 percent for three days in a row, all rural districts and cities with a stable seven-day incidence above 100 slide into warning level two.
On Sunday and Monday, the intensive care bed occupancy was already over 6.0 percent, on Monday the value was 6.1 percent.
