The Victoria Harbour Crossing was resumed in 2011, but it was suspended in 2019 due to the continued wave of anti-revision demonstrations, and then it was suspended for two consecutive years due to the severe epidemic last year.

The Swimming Association stated that in response to the gradual easing of the epidemic in recent months, the vaccination rate is close to 70%. Therefore, it plans to resume the New World Harbour Race. It is planned to be held on December 12 this year. It is currently discussing in detail with relevant government departments. The arrangements for epidemic prevention measures will be announced after approval.

President Yong said that strict anti-epidemic measures will be taken, requiring all participating swimmers to complete two doses of government-approved new crown vaccine 14 days before the competition date (that is, before November 28), and to show a negative virus test before the competition Proof to cooperate with the government's epidemic prevention measures to ensure the safety of all swimmers and staff.

President Yong is expected to announce the details of the event and the registration arrangements after obtaining the approval of the relevant departments before the end of October.

The event has a history of more than 100 years

The sea swimming has been held every year since 1906. It started from the waters between the Tsim Sha Tsui Railway Pier in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Marine Pier at Tsim Sha Tsui and ended at the shore between the Queen's Anchorage in Central on Hong Kong Island and Victoria Swimming Club.

Later, the sea swimming was directly changed from Tsim Sha Tsui Railway Pier to the shore of Queen’s Pier.

The swimming across the sea was suspended from 1942 to 1946 due to World War II and resumed in 1947.

However, due to the increasingly serious pollution of Victoria Harbour and the demolition of the Tsim Sha Tsui Railway Station, it was suspended after the 66th session was held in 1978.

In 2011, the Victoria Harbour Crossing was sponsored by New World and it was held at 9 am on October 16th. The track started from the Lei Yue Mun Sanjia Village Public Wharf and ended at the Quarry Bay Park Public Wharf. The whole journey was 1.8 kilometers. It is longer than before.

Since 2017, starting from Tsim Sha Tsui Public Pier, it will return to Tsim Sha Tsui after 39 years, and the end will be at Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai.
