Two firefighters and a firefighter are on trial this Tuesday. Justice accuses these three soldiers of having filmed a young man in agony

"Free horror out of date"?

A "betrayal of servants of the state"?

An "unbearable attack on the dignity and memory of a victim who should not go unpunished"?

It is a dark story against a background of social networks that will be invited this Tuesday to the tenth correctional chamber of the Paris courthouse (17th century).

And that questioned the day after the tragedy by the mother of the victim and her lawyers, Fanny Colin, Anaïs Benfedda and Orly Rezlan.

Three firefighters from the BSPP (Paris fire brigade), including two senior officers, military doctors, aged 29 and 30, and a firefighter, 28, are being prosecuted for "having fixed or transmitted without his consent the image of the victim being in a private place, in this case the capture of images of a medical intervention in progress in the resuscitation room ”.

The case dates back to September 27, 2018. That evening, at 11 pm, rue de la Jonquière (Paris XVII), Louis, 26, psychologically fragile, under medical treatment, jumps from the 6th floor of his building.

The victim does not crash down but impales himself on a stud.

The firefighters must saw the latter to free the injured person whose body is pierced and transport him to hospital.

The young man succumbed to the operating room of Beaujon, in Clichy (Hauts-de-Seine).

Devastated, the mother complains

The next day, several macabre videos, passed from hand to hand, or rather from phone to phone - firefighters among themselves, colleagues, friends, families - are found on social networks, including a tour to the OR.

“At the end of the chain, insists a source familiar with the matter, we do not know who uploaded this video.

The mother of the victim, devastated by the death of her son, discovers these appalling images.

And file a complaint.

In this video, we see the firefighter in the block removing the stud from the body of the victim still alive and "showing it off like a trophy". All around, firefighters and nursing staff exclaim loudly. "We are in a place that touches on privacy and medical confidentiality," Mr. Colin will be indignant. There we have a naked man lying and dying on a stretcher. "Other souvenir photos and films will be made at the hospital with the firefighters and the plot," adds a judicial source.

By discovering these images, the AP-HP (Public Assistance-Hospitals of Paris) had also lodged a complaint and opened an administrative investigation in order to "remove the doubt on a possible involvement" of its agents.

In this case of videos and social networks, two police officers were also prosecuted.

They had filmed in a Parisian police station, on their screens, the images from the cameras of the CCTV street.

"Humor, often trashy, is a form of protection"

A senior official of the Ministry of the Interior deciphers: “In this case, we should not see a lack of respect.

Doctors, firefighters, cops share the same culture.

Confronted so often with death, suffering and extreme situations, humor, often trashy, is a form of protection and salutary distancing.

"

This Monday, the BSPP, contacted, replied that it would not speak on the subject.

In 2018, on condition of anonymity, a high-ranking military, "stunned and shocked" by this "monstrous story", warned: "In the best case, with regard to these firefighters, they will suffer days of stop.

If there is a criminal investigation, it is the door.

"

On the lawyer side, those of the firefighters, as well as those of the civil parties, each indicated that they would only speak during the hearing on Tuesday.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the authors of this film have a clear line of defense: “They filmed these images of the block for a Retex.

In military parlance, it is a "return on experience", in order to share and improve the processes.

To see if it will convince the judges.
