The Hamburg seaman's pastor Matthias Ristau takes over the office of Secretary General of the German Seamen's Mission in January.
An extraordinary general meeting elected the 52-year-old last Friday as the successor to Pastor Christoph Ernst, as the seaman's mission announced on Tuesday.
According to the information, Ristau will in future be responsible for managing a network of more than 700 full-time and volunteer workers in more than thirty stations at home and abroad.
Hamburg - Ristau has been a seaman pastor of the North Church since 2013.
He recently became publicly known for his work for more than 150 seafarers from the South Pacific island state of Kiribati, who were stuck in Hamburg for months because of the corona pandemic.
