Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu discussed with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri in Moscow today the strengthening of bilateral relations and the situation in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, Shoigu said, "Our relations with Iran are developing, and what demonstrates this is the joint struggle against international terrorism," stressing "his country's readiness to continue making every possible effort to maintain the current pace of development of their relations."
Shoigu referred to the cooperation between Moscow and Tehran in the fight against terrorism in Syria, indicating that this cooperation can continue in different regions such as Afghanistan, pointing in this regard to the threats of the emergence of the terrorist organization (ISIS) on the territory of neighboring countries.
In turn, Bagheri stressed the importance of Iranian-Russian cooperation in combating terrorism, pointing to the need to support the Syrian Arab Army, which is fighting terrorist organizations on Syrian territory.
Bagheri indicated that "Russia and Iran have a common approach on the situation in Afghanistan."
