600 new apartments could be built on the site of the former cattle yard.
But to do this, the truck wash would have to be relocated.
A possible new location would be the slaughterhouse.
But politicians and local residents have concerns.
Not just because of the cost.
Both cattle and meat transporters that approach the Munich slaughterhouse are cleaned from the inside after unloading.
So far, the truck washing has been done on the stockyard site.
Where calves, pigs and horses were once traded, around 600 affordable apartments are to be built soon.
The old car wash stands in the way of these plans.
That is why the city is now looking into building a new truck wash facility directly on the slaughterhouse site at Zenettistraße 2. Because of the lack of space there, a two-storey wash facility has been designed for the four-meter-high trucks.
The underground construction results in high construction costs.
The new building will cost
15 million euros
.
Among other things, groundwater protection and the drainage of animal manure and liquid manure are expensive.
Local politicians reject the extension of the lease
The district committee (BA) Ludwigs- / Isarvorstadt does not believe that this investment will pay off.
Because the lease for the slaughterhouse ends in 2040. Also because meat consumption is declining, the plan for the construction of a new washing facility shows a
hidden subsidy from
the Munich slaughterhouse.
In addition, the expensive new building could help to extend the lease, local politicians fear.
However, the BA firmly rejects this.
In addition to the persistent odor nuisance, the large animal transporters in the densely built-up Isarvorstadt are particularly annoying.
They are noisy day and night and endanger road users.
In addition, as on the cattle yard, affordable, urban living could be created here.
The resident and architect Thomas Sporer assesses the new construction plans for the truck wash even more critically than the BA. “I assume that the actual construction costs will be 20 percent higher when the facility is completed in 2024. Because the
construction prices are rising
steadily, ”he said at the meeting of the district committee. That is uneconomical. “The planning completely ignores the interests of taxpayers. The slaughterhouse can simply no longer be used here. It would make much more sense to look for a new location now and to process the existing lease contracts before the end of the term. ”The slaughterhouse is outdated and actually unprofitable.
A move of the slaughterhouse out of the city center has been discussed for years.
In 2016, large-scale plans for a meat trading center in Aschheim became known.
Many had read from these the long-term goal that the operations of the Munich slaughterhouse should be relocated to Aschheim.
But residents finally forced a referendum - and gave the slaughterhouse plans a clear rejection.
