Voices are loud calling for a head of the Bundestag.

So far, only one man has been traded in the SPD.

The Greens could possibly take over the office.

Berlin - Wolfgang Schäuble resigns as President of the Bundestag.

Who will be his successor?

Traditionally, the second highest office in the state after the Federal President is the strongest parliamentary group.

This is currently the SPD.

However, there are apparently ambiguities within the party, which is why the Greens are also associated with the office.

President of the Bundestag: SPD parliamentary group leader Mützenich a candidate

As the strongest parliamentary group, the SPD has the right to make proposals.

According to parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich, the party will also use this right.

Mützenich is considered a promising candidate for the Schäuble legacy.

"Every parliamentarian, including me, is honored to be traded for the office of President of the Bundestag," he recently commented on the speculation.

Party leader Norbert Walter-Borjans had personally brought him in touch with the office.

Within his party, however, the Mützenich personality is not only rated positively.

The German Women's Council called on the SPD to nominate a President of the Bundestag.

"It is unbelievable that precisely the party that calls for a 'decade of equality' in its election manifesto apparently wants to send predominantly men to the highest government offices," said chairwoman Beate von Miquel of the

editorial network Germany

.

The Working Group of Social Democratic Women had already made a similar statement on Monday.

President of the Bundestag: Criticism of the SPD's men's plans - "You should nominate a woman"

SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz had always stressed during the election campaign that his cabinet should be made up of equal numbers of women and men. However, the highest political posts could all be filled by men. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Bundestag President Rolf Mützenich and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier? The head of state of the Federal Republic has already announced that he would like to continue to hold office. Steinmeier is popular. The majority of Germans would like to have another term of office and the political opponent also supports him. The FDP has spoken out in favor of Steinmeier as the new and old Federal President.

Should Steinmeier become Federal President, Mützenich would not be easy to place as President of the Bundestag.

"In view of a male dual leadership in the office of Chancellor and Federal President, the SPD should urgently nominate a woman for the office of President of the Bundestag and another for the parliamentary group chair in order to maintain parity," demanded von Miquel.

So far, Germany already had two presidents of the Bundestag: Annemarie Renger (1972-76; SPD) and Rita Süssmuth (1988-98; CDU).

Will number three follow soon?

Not only personal data from the SPD are traded.

President of the Bundestag: Katrin Göring-Eckardt a candidate?

The Green MP Katrin Göring-Eckardt is repeatedly associated with top positions in the new government.

She is also considered a candidate for the office of Federal President.

The

Bild

now reports that the politician, who was born in East Germany and therefore has even more prospects, is also an option as President of the Bundestag.

The new government has decided to integrate East Germans as well as women.

The current leader of the Greens would be the first Green politician to head the Bundestag.

But does the SPD play along at all? It seems possible that the Social Democrats, with a view to Steinmeier, promise the Greens the office of President of the Bundestag. The competition for Steinmeier as Federal President would have vanished, even though FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann is traded loosely for the office. However, the FDP would probably make less demands on the office than the Greens had announced. So is the SPD sacrificing Mützenich for Steinmeier? Or does she conjure up a female President of the Bundestag out of her hat herself? The future Chancellor's party would have the right to propose. So far, however, it has been extremely quiet as far as female candidates are concerned.

request.

In principle one does not participate in personnel speculation, announced the Green parliamentary group and referred to the SPD's right to propose.

With regard to the occupation of a woman, a spokeswoman made it clear: "We assume that the SPD will make decisions with a view to filling the highest state offices that are state-of-the-art."

Bundestag Presidium: Vice Claudia Roth applies again for office

Another Green politician speaks more aggressively with Claudia Roth.

She has apparently announced that she will apply for a post in the Presidium of the Bundestag.

"As a long-time parliamentarian, I also see it as my job to pass on my joy and passion for our democracy to this new generation, to pass on my experience and at the same time to constantly develop my own perspective and to accept and accept the many exciting new impulses", writes Roth in a letter to the members of the group.

The letter has been submitted to the German Press Agency.

Roth was elected Vice President of the Bundestag for the first time in 2013 and was re-elected four years ago.

Vice-presidents, for example, lead the plenary sessions.

"If someone had told me 40 years ago that one day I would become Vice President of the German Bundestag, I would probably have declared him crazy," writes Roth.

"At that time we Greens were the anti-party party, we chained ourselves to nuclear power plants and were very skeptical about political institutions." It was a long way from the street to parliament, from the movement to the party.

It is not clear whether Roth is also interested in the office of President of the Bundestag or just wants to remain Vice.
