In order to record bicycle traffic across the board in Hesse, the state wants to set up 270 automatic counting stations from next year.
The devices should measure how many cyclists are on the bike paths, federal and state roads, as well as in cities and municipalities.
The Wiesbaden Ministry of Transport hopes that the data obtained in this way will provide information on Tuesday about how the bicycle network can be meaningfully expanded.
Wiesbaden - According to the ministry, the meters equipped with induction loops installed in the floor cost around 3.5 million euros.
The money for this comes from the Hesse Climate Protection Plan 2015. There are already 2900 counting points throughout Hesse for motorized traffic on motorways and federal and state roads - around 500 of them are permanently installed.
