This year it should be different again.
The Gmunder Seegeister plan firmly with the usual Mardi Gras start including enthronement and storming of the town hall.
Gmund - "Everyone is hot for the carnival and is busy training," reports Florian Gradl.
In July, the 32-year-old took over the presidency of the sea spirits Gmund-Dürnbach from long-time head fool Bernd Ettenreich.
It was the time when it became clear that there could be another carnival season this year.
The Guards had just started training.
Even now, a few months later, the new president is full of hope: "We are confident that we can start Carnival as usual," he says.
The Gmund sea spirits are back: enthronement rises on November 12th
According to tradition, the foolish time should be ushered in in November. At the enthronement on Friday, November 12th, in the Gmunder Oberstöger, the sea spirits want to present their new show program and also reveal the previously well-kept secret about the new prince couples. The season's motto will not be revealed until this day, says secretary Anna-Maria Müller.
With all the anticipation: The sea spirits are aware that the pandemic with all its risks and restrictions does not yet allow for total licentiousness this year.
The enthronement therefore takes place as a closed event for the members, families and friends of the sea spirits in compliance with the 3G rule.

On the other hand, when the traditional storming of the town hall the next day, the public is also welcome.
At 11.11 a.m., the fools move from Oberstöger to the town hall to demand the town hall keys from Mayor Alfons Besel.
The sea ghosts then finally take over the reign - at least until Ash Wednesday.

The active dancers in particular could hardly wait to finally show what they can do again, reports Gradl. In contrast to other associations and carnival societies, the sea spirits cannot complain about a lack of zeal - on the contrary: "Our gardens are very well set up," says the president happily. The corona-related standstill, also in the sports sector, has even given the club an influx. More than 20 little dancers take part in the Zwergerl Guard alone. "That has been a good response," says Gradl. So there are no youngsters worries about the sea spirits.
The president is also not worried about the start of the carnival season.
Despite Corona, nothing should stand in the way of this.
“How things will continue afterwards is a long way off,” says Gradl.
Whether large events such as the Kindergarde meeting or carnival balls will be possible in the actual high season remains to be seen and depends on how the pandemic and the regulations develop.
Gradl hopes that the Garden will have the opportunity to perform on different occasions.
“Of course, we do it wherever this is desired and possible,” he says.
And: "We are about to prepare a nice carnival."
