Unsuccessful property search: Murnau municipal council is forced to move away

Murnau's real estate crisis does not stop at well-known local residents either.

The latest example: Local councilor Franz Fischer (Mehr Bewegen) resigns his mandate - of necessity, as he emphasizes.

Because he couldn't find anything suitable in his home town and is now moving to Eberfing with all the kids.

Murnau

- Franz Fischer (married, one child), this step is not easy.

You can tell from him.

But after a year of unsuccessful search to find a larger apartment or house in Murnau, he and his wife had to make this decision - and, as he himself says, bite the bullet.

“We didn't find anything,” Fischer sums up - and describes the local real estate market as “extremely problematic”.

Semi-detached house in Eberfing

Finally, as the 37-year-old emphasizes, reason prevailed - and not so much the heart. Because the family needs more space, a bigger home, especially since the business economist has been working from home more often since Corona. So the Fischers struck in Eberfing, a good 16 kilometers away in the neighboring district of Weilheim-Schongau. A semi-detached house will be her new center of life there. The price paid by Fischer, who comes from a long-established Murnau family, is high: he has to resign from his council mandate - an honorary position that he filled with heart and soul. Presumably at the end of the month he will leave the committee. “I would have liked to continue,” he says wistfully.

The case relentlessly shows how much the real estate crisis is causing the Staffelsee community to create - despite numerous attempts by local politics to counteract this.

But the situation now seems to be so tense that even a local like Fischer, who is deeply rooted here and should have excellent contacts, goes away empty-handed.

“It's incredibly difficult.

There is nothing, ”he reports.

Demand exceeds supply

The background to this is well known: Demand far exceeds supply, which sometimes drives prices to absurd heights.

The neat market in the Blue Land is well on its way, scoffers have been blaspheming for a long time, to become a refuge for wealthy seniors.

It may be of little consolation for Fischer: but it is not an isolated incident.

Again and again one hears of Murnauer who are forced to leave their hometown to settle elsewhere.

However, Fischer cannot come up with a counter-recipe either.

In his opinion, the housing projects initiated by the community are just a drop in the ocean.

“I don't see the big solution coming,” he says.

"The municipality only has limited room for maneuver."

Fischer's departure is unlikely to put away his Mehr-Bewegen faction, which is represented with four seats in the local council, so easily.

"That is a huge loss," regrets spokesman Phillip Zoepf.

Fischer is a "clever head who can think strategically".

In the past 2020 election campaign, the two were a well-rehearsed team.

“He was the ideal sparring partner for me,” says Zoepf, who was defeated by incumbent Rolf Beuting (ÖDP / Bürgerforum) in the fight for mayor.

Fischer has been a member of the local council for over four years.

In 2017 he inherited Mehr-Bewegen-founder Alexander Weinhart, who left for family reasons.

Fischer's successor on the list is Reiner Oppelt.

The mail clerk is not a newbie.

He was already a member of the local parliament in the previous electoral term.
