The incident took place last Wednesday shortly after ten at night, when the victim boarded the wrong train back to her home after a day of work.
As she sat alone, the suspect named Piston Nguy (35) approached her and began touching her and attacking her while security cameras recorded everything despite her requests to stop and leave her alone.
The attack escalated while the caravan was already full and according to police estimates Nguy raped the woman in front of dozens of passengers who documented the matter for several minutes until he was stopped by a security guard from the SEPTA railway company.
Local police chief Timothy Bernhardt said if the passengers had intervened, the rape would probably not have taken place.
"There were a lot of people, I think they had to intervene. Someone had to do something," Bernhardt said.
"It's talking about where we are in society and about allowing something like that to happen. So it's disturbing," he concluded.
Nguy told investigators after the arrest that he knew the woman and as a result of the conversation with her they "had consensual sex".
The victim of course denied the version and confirmed that she had never met the attacker.
Investigators for their part claimed that the security footage proves that the woman objected and now the suspect is in custody while awaiting trial for counts of assault and rape.
