The city wants to expand soft tourism.

A “nature tourism coordinator” is to be employed to develop flyers, apps, signs and other measures.

Geretsried - In its most recent meeting, the city council decided to take part in the FöRNatKom program (promotion of environmentally and climate-friendly nature adventure and nature tourism offers in Bavarian municipalities).

The city's economic promoter Rebecca Geisler and Andreas Wüstefeld, head of the “Tölzer Land” department at the Bad Tölz district office, presented the program.

Much has already happened, both large and small, in order to increase the recreational and leisure value of Geretsried for residents and visitors.

Geisler mentioned the construction of the intercommunal indoor swimming pool and the renovation of the ice rink, the upgrading of the center, the long-distance cycle route Munich-Venice, which runs along the Isar, and the museum.

But the exercise course in the city forest or the cross-country ski run on the Böhmwiese would also add to Geretsried's attractiveness.

The Isar floodplains, large forest areas and landscape areas such as Schwaigwall, Buchberg and Gelting are ideal destinations for nature tourism, according to Geisler.

City does not realize its full potential

However, Geretsried is not yet fully exploiting its potential, believes Andreas Wüstefeld.

After all, the largest city in the district is in ninth place in terms of the number of overnight stays.

However, there is no “visitor management”.

There is also no tourist information center in Geretsried, as in other cities.

In Buchberg, for example, paths are poorly described, which sometimes leads to user conflicts, said Geisler.

Additional local recreation offers could be created through guided paths and adventure trails with interactive stations that also contribute to environmental education, as well as through designated bicycle tours.

In order to develop flyers, apps, signs and other measures, the city would have to employ a “nature tourism coordinator”.

For this purpose, 150,000 euros would have to be entered in the budget for three years from 2022 to 2024 in order to be able to call up the state funding up to a maximum amount of 200,000 euros.

Mayor Michael Müller (CSU) promoted participation in the funding project.

Geretsried is "the gateway to the Tölzer Land".

If you don't make special offers, the Tölzer Land Tourismus cannot include the city in its advertising campaigns.

Trade and gastronomy benefit

Local businesses and gastronomy benefited from gentle tourism.

Leisure facilities are also a soft location factor for companies to settle here.

Martina Raschke (Greens) called participation a “very good chance”.

As a result, Geretsried could further expand the image of the “city in the country”.

Gerhard Meinl (CSU) declined with a view to the necessary budget consolidation.

Dr.

Elmar Immertreu (Geretsrieder List) said that on the one hand you could not increase the dog tax and on the other hand you could not spend so much money on a new position in the town hall.

The SPD was also skeptical.

Kerstin Halba would have preferred to hire an external consultant, which, according to Geisler, is not possible.

In the end it was decided with 20: 7 votes to apply to the government of Upper Bavaria for inclusion in the FöRNatKom.
