The sterilized and sifted quantities of wheat seed in the branch of the Foundation for Seed Propagation in Homs, which are scheduled to be sold to farmers during the current agricultural season, amounted to 3,500 tons, both hard and soft, of various varieties.
Ahmed Youssef Ahmed, director of the Foundation’s branch, confirmed in a statement to SANA Economic Bulletin that 200 tons of barley seeds were sifted and sterilized to sell to farmers, and some quantities of wheat were shipped to the branches of agricultural banks in the governorate’s areas to be ready for sale with the beginning of the cultivation season, indicating that the selling price was set in 1585 Syrian pounds per kilogram of wheat and 1743 Syrian pounds per kilogram of barley.
He pointed out that the Corporation's plan for the next season includes receiving 5,000 tons of wheat seed from farmers according to contracts that will be concluded with them under an agricultural license, pointing out that the Corporation will buy one kilogram from contracted farmers during the harvest season, with an increase of between 20 and 30% over the price of the Grain Corporation. Encourages farmers to hand over their crop to the enterprise.
As for the Qai Tower plant, which belongs to the Corporation, which has an area of 400 dunams, the director of the Corporation branch indicated that the soil is currently being prepared in it to be ready for planting with wheat and barley seeds, and its entire production returns to the Corporation, which is an advanced station for conducting experiments on seed in its upper stages.
It is noteworthy that the Corporation branch received 3,100 tons of wheat seeds from farmers during the last season, and they were stored in the Corporation's warehouses.
