About a year ago, the child Omar had a tendency to play and music, so his mother, a teacher at the same school, began to encourage him through a program on her mobile phone, and today he can play in his spare time and when greeting the flag.

During the visit of the SANA reporter to the school, the child’s mother, teacher Kholoud Awad, said, “Her son, Omar, has Asperger’s syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder, and is currently studying in the sixth grade after he was rehabilitated in a kindergarten for autistic children and at the Al-Rabeeh Association in Homs for the care of autistic children,” indicating that he has the skill of playing. In addition to continuing his studies.

Bahira Al-Shaar, a resource teacher in the school, pointed out that there are 29 children with disabilities “blind, visually impaired, motor delay and down” supervised by 3 resource teachers whose mission is to follow up the children academically and educationally to avoid any shortcomings within their classes and with their peers, while taking exams for them, indicating that the school’s resource room includes educational aids It helps children to perceive and understand.

Intisar Al-Saleh, the school principal, indicated that there are 556 children in the school during the current academic year, from the first to sixth grade, in two shifts, and they are supervised by an educational and teaching staff consisting of about 40 teachers, mentors and counsellors.

Dilal Hilal, responsible for the program for the integration of children with disabilities in regular schools in the Homs Education Directorate, indicated that the number of inclusive schools for the current year in Homs has reached more than 69 inclusive schools and kindergartens, 46 of which are first cycle schools, including 27 in the city and 28 in the countryside, two of them in Rastan and Talbiseh, in addition to 9 kindergartens. A merging government, 11 second cycle schools, 3 joint schools, a second cycle, a secondary school, and two secondary schools, where the geographical distribution of the schools was taken into account.

She pointed out that the total number of students in resource rooms to date has reached 570 male and female students, as 110 children with various disabilities have been accepted during the current academic year, including "visual, blind, hearing, motor, mental, autism, hyperactivity, speech disorder, and language learning difficulties."

She indicated that some of the resource room students have many talents such as singing, playing and drawing, and their teachers make every effort to encourage them to develop their talents by involving them in the school's various artistic and sports activities.
