The child Omar Khankan with a disability continues his educational journey in the sixth grade at the Martyr Ahmed Youssef Al-Ahmad School in Homs alongside his healthy peers with diligence and perseverance and in an educational atmosphere that motivates him and all his companions to excel.

Bahira Al-Shaar, a resource teacher in the school, pointed out that there are 29 children with disabilities “blind, visually impaired, motor delay and down” supervised by 3 resource teachers whose mission is to follow up the children academically and educationally to avoid any shortcomings within their classes and with their peers, while taking exams for them, indicating that the school’s resource room includes educational aids It helps children to perceive and understand.
Intisar Al-Saleh, the school principal, indicated that there are 556 children in the school during the current academic year, from the first to sixth grade, in two shifts, and they are supervised by an educational and teaching staff consisting of about 40 teachers, mentors and counsellors.
Dilal Hilal, responsible for the program for the integration of children with disabilities in regular schools in the Homs Education Directorate, indicated that the number of inclusive schools for the current year in Homs has reached more than 69 inclusive schools and kindergartens, 46 of which are first cycle schools, including 27 in the city and 28 in the countryside, two of them in Rastan and Talbiseh, in addition to 9 kindergartens. She indicated that some of the resource room students have many talents such as singing, playing and drawing, and their teachers make every effort to encourage them to develop their talents by involving them in the school's various artistic and sports activities.
