The panel investigating the January riots on Capitol Hill voted unanimously against former adviser to President Donald Trump, after refusing to appear at the hearing

The commission of inquiry that convened on Tuesday decided to continue the legal proceedings against Bannon, 67, who was the White House chief strategist in 2017 and Trump's presidential campaign manager a year earlier.

Ten panel members see him as a key figure and link him to the events of January 6 this year, when hundreds of former president's supporters broke into the Holy of Holies of American politics in Washington, D.C. after the loss of Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

"We believe Mr. Bannon has relevant information for our investigation, and we will use the tools at our disposal to obtain that information," said committee chairman, Democratic Congressman Benny Thompson (73).

"We will not shy away. We will not be distracted and we will not be delayed. He is ready to be a martyred saint for a shameful purpose and to demonstrate his absolute loyalty to the former president," he added.

As mentioned, after being summoned to testify, Bannon chose to challenge the committee and decided not to stand up in arguments for immunity for his role under the Trump administration, an immunity that according to committee members ended in 2017 after he was fired and became a full citizen.

The lawsuit against Bannon took place against the backdrop of a lawsuit filed by Trump in two against members of the U.S. National Commission of Inquiry and National Archives, after seeking access to documents of the former president's inner circle to examine the background that led to riots in recent administration days.

"The commission's request amounts to nothing less than a disgusting and illegal persecution approved by (President Joe) Biden and intended to illegally investigate President Trump and his administration. Our laws do not allow such an impulsive and severe action against a former president and his close advisers," the lawsuit filed at home. Columbia District Court and includes 26 pages.
