China promised Wednesday before the WTO to accelerate its
"new development model"
based on domestic demand, while further opening its vast market internationally.
Beijing made these promises during the review of China's trade practices at the World Trade Organization (WTO), an exercise that all members of the organization undergo at regular intervals but is held in behind closed doors.

In a report published on this occasion, transmitted by the WTO, China indicates that it intends
"to accelerate the efforts made to encourage a new development model whose main element is internal circulation".
“The new development model is not a closed-door development loop. By fully exploiting the potential of domestic demand, it serves to better link the internal and international markets, makes it possible to better exploit markets and resources at the international and national level, and ensures more sustained and more sustainable development ”
, explains however the document.
Promotion of multilateralism
Beijing indicates that it wants to
"fully
open up
the possibilities offered by the immense market and the considerable domestic demand of China, which has 1.4 billion inhabitants"
, with the objective of
"making the Chinese market a market for the world, shared by all and accessible to all ”.

China says it wants in particular
"to implement a more dynamic import policy"
and to establish
"a new environment conducive to openness by deploying (...) experimental free zones and free ports".
In the report, China also vigorously defends multilateralism, and assures that it
"will join forces with those of other Members to meet global challenges."
Faced with global warming, the document reaffirms Chinese commitments: carbon neutrality
"by 2060"
and a peak in emissions
"by 2030".
"As a developing country, China will continue to deepen South-South cooperation and contribute to the eradication of poverty, debt relief and economic growth in developing countries"
, says also the report.

And to conclude:
“There is only one Earth and one common future for humanity.
China stands ready to unite with other Members and move forward with them, letting the flame of multilateralism light the way towards a community with a common vision for the future of humanity ”.
The previous review of Chinese trade policies dates back to 2018. Donald Trump's United States then questioned China's legitimacy to be part of the WTO, by accusing it in particular of not opening up its market sufficiently.
