On Monday, Mali visited Abu Dhabi where he held talks with Sheikh Tahanun bin Ziad, the UAE's national security adviser, and with Anwar Gergesh.

Meetings that Biden's adviser described as "good" while adding that they also talked about the Islamic Republic's nuclear ambitions and unspecified "security challenges".

Although the White House stresses that "all options are still on the table," the US administration is working behind the scenes and openly exerting pressure to bring Iran back to the negotiating table.

Talks ahead of a new deal were halted in June after six unsuccessful rounds.
