An indictment was filed this morning (Wednesday) in the Jerusalem District Court against Guy Shapira, a 49-year-old resident of Ma'ale Adumim who is suspected of murdering his wife Rachel Eisenstadt about a month ago.

The two were in divorce proceedings, and Shapira is accused of directing the suicide of 50-year-old Eisenstadt.

According to the indictment, Shapira fled the scene of the murder shortly after committing it.

He then shot himself in front of police officers and was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The couple has a 16-year-old child, and the murdered woman had six other children from a previous marriage.

Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of Eisenstadt's burial, and her family and friends went to the grave to discover the tombstone.

"When he murdered you he also murdered the souls of seven other children," her children praised her.

The incident took place on September 19, when the police received a report of a suspicion of a suicide by a woman in her home.

After the autopsy, findings were obtained indicating that it was probably not a suicide incident, and immediately afterwards an investigation team was set up that began carrying out covert investigative actions, including gathering findings and evidence.

The suspect, who was under surveillance, fled in his vehicle to the south of the country on Route 6, ignoring the cries of the police officers who ordered him to stand on the side of the road.

He continued on a wild ride and later climbed a barbed-wire checkpoint set up by police.

After his vehicle stopped, Shapira got out of his vehicle with a weapon, which he carried on a license, and shot himself.

He was taken to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva in critical condition.
