Design Focus: We tested the Oppo Reno 6 5G | Israel today

2021-10-20T08:59:12.793Z

The Reno 6 5G comes with a screen in AMOLED technology • Shiny appearance • Powerful battery with very fast charging • Is this the smartphone that will conquer the NIS 2,000 category?

Oppo entered Israel in early 2021 and since then it has managed to launch a respectable number of smartphones here.

The Reno 6 5G model belongs to the very busy category of smartphones under a price tag of about NIS 2,000.

The company seems to have tried very hard to stand out with this device, thanks to a colorful and shiny design that will allow it to look better on the shelf in front of competitors from home: realme or OnePlus.

Design: Oppo Reno 6 - Metallic Chic

The Reno 6 comes in a particularly shiny look, thanks to a back reminiscent of light blue metal with an effect that changes its color when the light is refracted on it.

Despite the metallic chic, it is still a smartphone made of plastic, but one that does not weigh too much - 182 grams and a thickness of only 7.59 cm. Depending on the category, you will not find water or dust protection here, but you will find gorilla glass 5, which Should keep your screen.

Screen: Oppo Reno 6 - AMOLED technology and high image refresh

The successful AMOLED screens have managed to establish their position in the mid- and low-end smartphone category.

Oppo also uses this technology here, which makes the 6.43-inch screen have a sharp image and rich colors.

The resolution here is 1080 by 2400 pixels (Full HD Plus) with an image refresh rate of 90 Hz, which provides a smooth feeling when switching menus and also 750-backlit lighting, which had no trouble dealing with the Israeli sun.

Interface: Oppo Reno 6 - has call recording (approximately)

In the Oppo devices I reviewed last year, I grumbled about the lack of call recording capability and WiFi calling.

I'm happy to announce that Oppo has added these options, making the device easy to use for people who want to record calls or suffer from reception problems at home or in the office.

On the other hand, shortly before the review was published, I lost the call recording option, but other users I spoke with stated that they still have it, so you should take that into account.

The Reno 6 comes with Android 11, with the interface ColorOS on it.

For some reason, Oppo allows you to select an interface with an app drawer, but it still throws all the apps into the home pages as well, which just creates an obscure mess.

Also, it would have been nice if Oppo had worked on polishing the interface so that it would provide a more user-friendly experience.

Beyond that, there are nice options in the interface, such as: "Edge lighting" that appears on all sides of the screen when an alert is received, selecting different formats in "Always On" display mode, "Smart sidebar", it allows you to place favorite apps and run Two apps on a split screen.

A split screen can also be entered by sliding three fingers from the bottom of the screen.

What bothers me regularly about Oppo devices is their inability to work with a car system that supports Android Auto or at least a system I have from Sony (unlike Samsung smartphones, where there is no such problem).

Hardware: Oppo Reno 6 - Works smoothly

Not surprisingly, Oppo has equipped its smartphone with a processor from MediaTek, which usually stars in mid-range devices.

This is a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G processor that supports browsing in 5th generation cellular networks, it has 8 GB of working memory and a storage capacity of 128 GB, without the ability to expand via a card.

This is a smartphone that responds well and I do not remember any stutters, when also the fingerprint sensor located under the screen was reliable and agile.

The Bluetooth here is 5.2, has WiFi 6 and a single speaker, but with Dolby Atmos support.

The choice of a combination of just a single speaker and not a slightly puzzling pair.

Camera: Oppo Reno 6 - Compromises in photo quality

In the photography category one could expect a little more than Oppo, because the feeling that there are compromises in the quality of photography.

The camera's camera system includes 3 sensors: a 64-megapixel main sensor with an f / 1.7 aperture key, autofocus, but without optical stabilizer.

The 8 megapixel sensor is wide (119 degrees) with f / 2.2 and a 2 megapixel macro sensor with f / 2.4.

The results when shooting in a place with daylight and ideal conditions were good, but if you are not in a perfect environment, forget about a good level of detail and also colors with a rich hue.

Many pictures just came out pale to me.

The selfie camera comes with a 32 megapixel sensor and an f / 2.4 aperture key.

It's not really bad, but you have to remember to turn off the beauty mechanism, because otherwise you will feel like someone is putting excessive make-up on your face.

Battery: Oppo Reno 6 - fast charge - 56% energy in 15 minutes

The battery provides a successful working time (4300 mAh), for me it lasted from seven in the morning until midnight and I still have 25% energy left (screen time of 4 hours).

The kit includes a 65-watt charger that provides 56% energy within a quarter of an hour.

Depending on the category, there is no wireless charging here.

Price: NIS 2,000 (official Ronlite importer)

Bottom line

, Oppo's Reno 6 5G plays in a category laden with competitors and models, it manages to stand out thanks to its slim and beautiful design, a screen with a good display and a powerful battery.

On the other hand, there are compromises in the camera.
