Are you very attached to animals, tell us about the background that led you to study veterinary medicine?

I have always loved animals.

For the wrong reasons, I decided after the army to go to law school.

After completing a year of internship at the Supreme Court, I worked in a large office in Tel Aviv.

One evening I went for a run in Hayarkon Park and saw an intricate goose in some kind of net in the lake.

I decided I was not interested in anything, I ran into the lake and released the goose and it was a really formative moment, the moment I realized that trials out of veterinary medicine do not exist.

What animals do you treat in the clinic?

I graduated and did an internship in cattle.

For 10 years I took care of the animals in the barns - whether it was litters, whether it was sick calves.

I tried to promote the subject of animal welfare and taught a course on the subject at a law school.

At the same time I opened a pet care clinic.

At the clinic I take care of dogs, cats, rabbits, rodents - any animal that people raise at home.

What are the signs that appear in our animals that can be identified when they are in distress?

First of all, animals just like us also suffer from mental distress.

Every time we see an animal behaving differently than usual - for example a dog that does not get up for a walk or cats that do not defecate in a crate, these are signs that light a warning light.

In such a situation they should be followed.

There are also classic conditions like diarrhea or vomiting etc.

When should you see a veterinarian?

When do you know you need to run to the clinic?

I tell my clients that this is a very early stage.

You can also pick up the phone and then you can tell them whether to come to the clinic or keep following.

It is also possible to film the animal so that the veterinarian can help already over the phone.

What are the common preventative treatments for dogs and cats?

I am a big believer in preventative medicine.

Unnecessary treatments can be avoided by good care.

For example, proper treatment of dog teeth or ear infections.

There are also preventative treatments against fleas and ticks that are best performed before the pests arrive - both for the convenience of the animal and to prevent medical damage.

There are also vaccines - there are diseases that can be vaccinated against.

Regardless of treatments also a healthy lifestyle - proper nutrition and exercise prevents many problems.

Just like in humans, preventative medicine helps you keep your animal healthy and intact.

Dr. Gilad Factor, thank you very much.
