“In silver, a red sloping bar covered with three silver heraldic roses with golden lugs, accompanied at the top by a red ram's horn, at the bottom by a green sea leaf” - the technical description of the Finsinger coat of arms is not easy to read. In any case, the meaning of the emblem is more important than this blazon.

Finsing

- Ernst Bichlmaier, who has dealt extensively with the history of

Finsing

, knows that too. In 1963, the then municipal council decided to apply for a municipal coat of arms of its own. Compared to other district communities, Finsing was “relatively early”, as Bichlmaier confirms. “At the time, everyone was very much in agreement that they wanted to do that. It was shortly after the names were given for the parish parts. Only Finsing and Eicherloh were there before, ”he adds.

For 37 years, Bichlmaier was the managing director of the Finsing community, and since 2013 he has been building a community archive.

So he knows the history of his homeland.

And he knows: "Finsing and thus also the coat of arms have a great historical background and a very close connection to the Tegernsee Monastery."

The municipal coat of arms was designed by Bad Tölzer Ernst Rössner.

He incorporated the three most important points of the community's history, as Bichlmaier explains.

Undoubtedly the most important thing is the close relationship with the Tegernsee Monastery, which played a major role in local history until the beginning of the 19th century.

The basis for the close connection is the so-called Church of Finsing.

Duke Tassilo III had given them to the Tegernsee Monastery.

However, since Finsing was assigned to the diocese of Freising and the possession of the church was linked to rich property, there was a dispute between Bishop Atto von Freising and the abbot of the Tegernsee monastery. "At that time the bishop still had the right to propose priests, but the church was owned by the monastery," Bichlmaier knows. Negotiations took place from 795 to 804. Ultimately, the church remained as a so-called Freising fiefdom at the Tegernsee monastery. The Tegernsee abbot had the right to propose parishes, the Bishop of Freising had the right to appoint local priests. The connection with the Tegernsee monastery remained in place until the monastery was abolished in 1803.

And even today, it is not only the Seeblatt in the Finsinger coat of arms that reminds of this longstanding relationship, as Bichlmaier explains: "Some Finsingers still own land in the Tegernsee area." The history expert sees this part of the coat of arms as something special. "That is the part that really has to do with the first mention of Finsing," he explains. The year 795 is not entirely undisputed, but it is assumed that Finsing was mentioned for the first time against the background of the dispute between the abbot and the bishop. "You are not entirely sure, because in a few years before there were always other expressions such as funsing, fuensing or the like to be found," reveals Bichlmaier. On the occasion of the 1200th anniversary, however, they agreed on the year 795. “Finsing was first mentioned in a document in 804.In the opinion of Pastor Eitlinger, however, the negotiations about the church began in 795, ”explains the archivist.

The development of Finsing was also shaped by the noble families of the Finsinger zu Finsing and the Widerspacher.

The connections in the coat of arms are represented by the three roses, which were taken from the coat of arms of the Finsinger, and by the ram's horn, which is originally to be found in the emblem of the Widerspacher.

Even today, the coat of arms also plays an important role in Finsing community life.

“The citizens are already aware of this.

Many clubs ask at their festivals whether they can use the coat of arms.

It is also explained in the brochure, which is regularly distributed to all households, and it is always included on our maps.

The reference to the coat of arms is definitely there, ”emphasizes Bichlmaier.
