Today (20th) at 11:30 a.m., a stump of trees collapsed on Dagulingpingyuan Road. The firefighter received a report to saw the trees and cleared the trees. During this time, a firefighter was hit by a branch and injured his head. He was sent to hospital for treatment.
The male victim was awake when he was sent to the hospital with blood stains on his face, and gauze was attached to the corner of his right eye and the bridge of his nose.
A spokesperson for the Hospital Authority said in the afternoon that the male victim was currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit and his condition was once critical.
By 6 pm next night, his situation returned to stability.
A spokesman for the Fire Services Department said that a firefighter stationed at the Heung Yuen Wai Fire Station was caught by another tree while handling a special service (saw tree) incident at Pingyang Village, Ta Kwu Ling at about 11.30 am today (20th). The suddenly collapsed tree branch was accidentally hit (the tree branch is about 12 meters long and 0.6 meters in diameter).
The firefighter had been employed for about 10 years and was wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and a fire helmet at the time of the incident.
After the accident, he suffered injuries to his head, hands and feet and was rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital by ambulance for treatment. He was conscious when he was sent to the hospital.
After treatment, the current situation is stable, but he needs to stay in hospital for further observation.
The Fire Services Department stated that an investigation into the accident has been launched and the Labour Department has been notified of the accident.
