The aging of the population is becoming more and more of a problem for the labor market.

Experts insist on more immigration of skilled workers and qualifications.

And digitization is changing the world of work.

Halle - According to experts, the labor market in Saxony-Anhalt will recover from the Corona crisis.

According to the forecast of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), unemployment will fall in the next year.

The scientists expect an average of 11,000 unemployed fewer than this year, as the IAB and the regional directorate Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia announced to the Federal Employment Agency on Wednesday.

The main cause is demographics - more people retire than new workers.

Unemployment: Experts predict positive development

The mood on the labor market is brightening due to the autumn recovery in Saxony-Anhalt.

The number of long-term unemployed is also falling.

Experts expect the situation to continue to develop well.

Unemployment: Experts predict positive development

Overall, the IAB experts assume an average of 69,400 unemployed in Saxony-Anhalt in 2022. That would be 13.5 percent less than in 2021 with an average of 80,200 unemployed. Nationwide, unemployment is expected to decline by 11.1 percent next year. In view of demographics, which are increasingly proving to be a slowing factor for the economy, the scientists forecast employment growth - in jobs subject to social insurance contributions - in Saxony-Anhalt in 2022 of 0.6 percent (nationwide: 1.6 percent; Eastern Germany; 1.2 Percent).

Almost independently of the economic development, it will be more difficult to find replacements for employees in Saxony-Anhalt.

"From doctors to nurses to bus and truck drivers, there will be a shortage of skilled workers in many areas," said Markus Behrens, head of the Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency.

This can only be solved by promoting the immigration of skilled workers and training more people.

According to Behrens, digitalization can replace many activities with technical processes.

At the same time, new activities with higher demands are emerging in the company.

On the other hand, there is a lack of staff.

Behrens again appealed to employers to take advantage of training opportunities for employees.
