Shortly before the start of the coalition negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP, the climate protection movement Fridays for Future presented its demands for the first 100 days to the new federal government - and increased the pressure on the Greens in particular.

“We are not talking about the greening of government work, we are talking about comprehensive system changes that are pending.

A business like that in eco-liberal is doomed to failure, «said activist Luisa Neubauer at a press conference in Berlin.

In order to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, the young environmentalists are calling, among other things, for a corresponding CO2 budget to be adopted.

Further demands are a binding phase-out of coal by 2030, an installation stop for fossil combustion engines from 2025 and an immediate new construction and expansion stop for motorways and federal highways.

Green youth are also calling for more binding climate protection

In the twelve-page result paper after the exploratory phase, the negotiators of the SPD, Greens and FDP had named an accelerated expansion of renewable energies and an exit from coal, ideally by 2030, but did not make the coal exit binding.

The youth organization of the Greens criticized - similar to Fridays for Future - the proposals of the exploratory groups.

"In the current state of negotiations at the traffic light, climate protection is neglected," wrote the youth organization of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen on Twitter.

The Green Youth calls on the SPD, Greens and FDP in their tweet to limit the emissions of climate-damaging carbon dioxide (CO₂) in such a way that global warming of more than 1.5 degrees is prevented. In addition, the junior organization is calling for the use of natural gas to be phased out by 2035 at the latest and a "consistent and socially acceptable" phase-out of coal by 2030 at the latest.

Before the coalition talks began, Greens chief Robert Habeck countered fears that the country's path to climate neutrality could not be financed.

It will not fail because of the money to make Germany climate neutral, said Habeck on ZDF.

There are a number of proposals in the room so that public and private investments increase significantly.

Habeck spoke of around 50 billion euros in necessary investments annually.

With reference to the negotiations between the Ampel partners, he did not want to give details of the necessary financing.

Coalition negotiations start on Thursday

The coalition negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP to form a joint government will begin on Thursday afternoon.

Shortly beforehand, the SPD General Secretary Lars Klingbeil, the Greens federal manager Michael Kellner and the FDP General Secretary Volker Wissing want to speak to the press again.

Accordingly, the respective main negotiating groups and the chairmen of the numerous thematically divided working groups meet.

So far, it is planned to negotiate in 22 working groups on the formation of a coalition.

The leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP agreed on a result paper on their explorations on Friday.

The responsible bodies of the three parties then approved the commencement of formal coalition negotiations.
