The rising energy prices hit more and more areas of life.
Now it is also affecting the bakeries.
Munich / Berlin - A wave of price increases is currently rolling towards consumers.
In addition to the costs of energy, such as heating oil, electricity and fuel, the prices of food are also rising.
Now the Federal Statistical Office has shared new bad news.
In August, producer prices for agricultural products rose significantly.
They were 13.3 percent higher than in the same month last year.
The rise in grain prices of 34.4 percent was the highest since January 2013.
Rising prices: This is why rolls and breads are becoming more expensive
According to the Federal Statistical Office, the reason for the cost explosion is the low supply.
This is due to a rainy and therefore bad harvest year in 2021. In addition to the high grain prices, the increasing energy costs for heating the ovens or delivering the goods are also a burden for the companies.
In a fire letter, Bavaria's food craftsmen, including bakers, warned of the consequences of rising costs.
Products such as raisin rolls or pumpkin seed bread are even burdened twice.
Johannes Kamm, head of the Berlin Bakers' Guild, told the
BZ
: “Raisins, almonds and pumpkin seeds come from overseas.
And the transport costs have increased tenfold in some cases. "
These are the consequences for the consumer
But how does this affect your morning shopping at the bakery? For John, comb the consequences are clear. "I can well imagine that many companies have to raise prices now, so that they still be able to meet their rapidly rising costs" Even the chief executive of the Association of
Private Breweries of Bavaria
, Stefan Stang, keeping price adjustments unavoidable: "We will not be able to avoid passing these price increases onto our products."
For the end consumer, this means: The breakfast rolls and the donut with afternoon coffee will be more expensive, and the half in the evening will probably be too.
The first offshoots of the upcoming price round have long been noticeable: Depending on the area, bread rolls have already become three to five cents more expensive.
It becomes particularly clear if you look at the white bread prices: Here an increase of five percent compared to the previous year is recorded.
With toast it is even ten percent.
