The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) and the Wolfsburg Clinic are cooperating on training and creating a medical campus in the Autostadt.
As the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture announced on Wednesday, the clinical training capacities of the UMG are to be expanded with the new teaching campus.
This will create a second clinical training location and convert the remaining partial study places in the human medicine course previously offered in Göttingen into full study places.
Göttingen - The concept is to take effect from spring 2022, patient-related courses (bedside teaching) can take place in Wolfsburg.
From 2023 onwards, up to 60 students from Göttingen will complete three of a total of six clinical semesters per year at the Wolfsburg teaching campus.
"Many doctors start their careers in the vicinity of their last training facility," said Minister of Science Björn Thümler (CDU).
Therefore, one in Lower Saxony will benefit from the fact that students at the University of Göttingen will no longer have to move to other federal states after completing their physics.

The enrollment numbers are largely stable despite the pandemic, said a spokeswoman for the university.
"Overall, the number of applicants in Halle is good," added Rector Christian Tietje.

The UMG is one of the largest medical faculties in Germany and currently trains 400 students per year.
Traditionally, the pre-clinical theoretical capacities in Göttingen are higher than the clinical ones, as the communication said.
Until now, students who have a partial study place have had to leave the university after the 1st medical examination and continue their clinical training - sometimes with a waiting period - at another location.
