The traffic routing on the Römerstein will be changed.

The new regulation applies from Thursday, cyclists are not affected.

Gilching - The community of Gilching is changing the traffic routing on the Römerstein: From Thursday, October 21 at the latest, the Römerstraße between Am Römerstein and Ferdinand-Porsche-Straße can only be used as a one-way street from Gut Hüll for a length of a good 240 meters.

Driving in from the center of the village in the direction of Gut Hüll, Gauting and Krailling is then no longer permitted.

An exception applies to cyclists. The community announced this yesterday afternoon in a press release. The change goes back to a unanimous decision of the environment and transport committee of the municipal council. However, the police were not heard.

With 9: 0 the members of the committee decided at the beginning of last week that they want to defuse the bottleneck on the Römerstein with a one-way street regulation. “The X920 express bus also runs there. And at this point it is so narrow that it often came to congestion, ”said Mayor Manfred Walter yesterday when asked. In addition to the lack of lane width, the confusion in the intersection area is also an issue. The committee has therefore decided that in future traffic coming from the center of the town will only be allowed to drive via Am Römerstein, the roundabout at the Porsche Center and Ferdinand-Porsche-Straße onto Römerstraße in the direction of Gut Hüll.

"It only costs road users a few minutes, if at all," explained Walter.

However, the road users from the direction of the town center would already lose time with the previous regulation because they would have to let the oncoming traffic pass on the kinking right of way when driving straight ahead.

Traffic coming from the direction of Gauting and Krailling is allowed to use the Römerstraße as usual as far as Am Römerstein.

Cyclists are not affected either, they are allowed to use the new one-way street in both directions.

Incidentally, the decision in the committee was not preceded by any discussion.

"We all agreed," emphasized Walter.

However, the new traffic regulation caused a surprise among the police. "To put it mildly, I am amazed that the community of Gilching is once again failing to comply with the requirements for hearing the police," said Oliver Jauch, the traffic clerk responsible for the district at the Starnberg police station, at the request of the Starnberger Merkur. The colleagues in the department responsible for Gilching in Germering did not know anything either. In terms of content, he could not say anything about the new regulation, said Jauch. "But we will look closely at the matter." As the focus of the accident, he was not aware of the location, but he knew that it was tight. Jauch: "If it is legally questionable, we will go to higher-level authorities such as the district office or the government of Upper Bavaria."

Manfred Walter was again surprised by the irritation with the police.

"It is an internal regulation," he said.

The clerk of the municipality is currently not available for queries.

"It may well be that we overlooked this in the past, but it never caused any major problems," said the mayor.
