Electric cars, company cars, distance lump sums - what is required in Germany's traffic only benefits rich people, says Winfried Hermann. People who could only afford a bike came away empty-handed.

Baden-Württemberg's transport minister, Winfried Hermann, has spoken out in favor of abolishing state subsidies such as company car subsidies.

From a social point of view, everything that is promoted in Germany in the transport sector is not okay, said the Green politician on Wednesday in the state parliament in Stuttgart in a debate about affordable mobility.

Company car subsidies only relevant for high earners

Hermann relies on reforms through a traffic light coalition of the SPD, Greens and FDP in the federal government.

There are "a lot of subsidies and subsidies in the tax system, of which I hope that some of these will be cleared away in the current coalition negotiations."

The Green politician said: "You must have a pretty good income and a good position to get the privilege of a company car subsidy." You drop off, ”said Hermann.

The promotion of electromobility is also not in order from a social point of view.

More e-cars are needed.

But: »It's amazing that the state gives people who can afford a car for 50,000 euros, 6,000 euros.

I mean, if you ride a bike and don't have a car, you don't get it.

That too is a social question to think about. "
