The CDU has been in crisis since the federal election - also in the southwest.

There is now a generation change in the district association of North Baden.

That could make the calls for further renewals quieter before the state party congress with new elections.

Stuttgart - The Baden-Württemberg Minister of Agriculture and long-time district chairman of the CDU North Baden, Peter Hauk, wants to put his party office in younger hands. Hauk confirmed to the German Press Agency in Stuttgart that he had proposed Moritz Oppelt, member of the Bundestag, as his successor. First the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" and the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" reported (Wednesday) on the personnel. The change is to take place at the district party conference of the CDU North Baden on October 29th. A good two weeks later, the state party congress is due, at which the state executive is to be re-elected.

After the federal election there is “a need for a realignment” in the district, said the 60-year-old Hauk of the dpa. In North Baden alone three direct mandates were lost - in Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Heidelberg. It is right that someone with weight, Oppelt, represents North Baden in the Bundestag. The 32-year-old from the Rhein-Neckar constituency has been Hauk's deputy in the district for two years and has now moved into the Bundestag for the first time.

The four powerful CDU district chairmen also sit on the presidium of the state party.

In addition to Hauk, there are MEPs Andreas Schwab for South Baden and Steffen Bilger for North Württemberg and Thomas Bareiß for South Württemberg, both of whom sit in the Bundestag.

Hauk and Oppelt spoke out in favor of Interior Minister Thomas Strobl also remaining CDU country chief.

"We have a huge interest in the Southwest CDU remaining stable," said Oppelt of the dpa.

Hauk added that renewal was necessary, but participation in the government in Baden-Württemberg was extremely important for the CDU, which will now probably have to join the opposition in the federal government.

Because of the heavy losses in the state and federal elections, there are also demands in the Southwest CDU for a renewal at the head of the state party.

The district administrator in the Zollernalb district, Günther-Martin Pauli, had asked the state chief Strobl to withdraw.

“Party politics is a team sport.

If you don't hit the ball anymore, you have to let better players onto the field, ”Pauli recently told the“ Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung ”.

It is expected that Strobl will take office again as state chairman.

The 61-year-old lawyer from Heilbronn has headed the CDU's second largest regional association for ten years.

He has not yet officially declared himself.

Whether someone will compete against him is also still open.
