The insolvency of Frankfurt-Hahn Airport in Rhineland-Palatinate initially has no direct financial consequences for Hessen as a co-owner.
"It is clear that the state of Hesse has no obligations to provide financial support to Flughafen Frankfurt Hahn GmbH even after filing for bankruptcy," said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Finance in Wiesbaden on Wednesday.
Hahn - The country is still interested in selling its shares.
"So far, however, no prospective buyer has approached the State of Hesse."
Hessen holds 17.5 percent of Flughafen Frankfurt Hahn GmbH.
The large Chinese group HNA owns 82.5 percent.
HNA acquired the shares from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in the summer of 2017.
Hesse did not sell, however, "because there were open questions about the structure on the buyer side that could not be clarified in the short term," said the spokeswoman.
