The Homs Education Directorate inaugurated today the Math and Thinking Center for the Gifted at Al-Shaheed Wasfi Al-Sabbagh School in the city.
The center, which has been allocated within a school hall, includes a set of computers, a projector and a printer, and it will, in turn, be equipped with everything necessary, where the training will take place in an interactive manner.
Walid Al-Marie, director of Homs Education, told SANA reporter that the center contributes to investing all the energies of talented students, nurturing and encouraging them, discovering the distinguished among them, and bringing them to the best scientific levels.
Bashar Kanaan, head of the center, pointed out that the aim of creating it is to search for elite students gifted in mathematics through constructive communication with the departments and professors of mathematics in the governorate’s schools, and to conduct a test for students who can develop, so that in the future, the Syrian Scientific Olympiad competitions will be supplemented with them.
Dr. Basil Arnous, Dean of the Second College of Education at Al-Baath University and the center’s supervisor, indicated that, in conjunction with the opening of the center, a preparation course is being conducted for teachers who will undertake the task of training talented students in mathematics from the two stages of basic education, the second cycle and secondary, most of whom are mathematics graduates and some volunteers from postgraduate students who have Experience in preparing the Olympic team.
