Karlsfeld wants, and Dachau apparently also wants: The chances that the Alte Bayernwerkstraße will become a bicycle street in the foreseeable future are not bad.
The transport committee of the Karlsfeld municipal council decided unanimously to “push” the project.
The municipal administration should start talks with representatives of the city of Dachau and the police.
Karlsfeld
- Franz Trinkl, SPD municipal councilor and the first bicycle consultant for the Karlsfeld municipality for a few months, had submitted an application for review in November 2020: How could a bicycle connection to Dachau be made possible west of the railway?
The administration then investigated a possible off-road route.
It is the continuation of the Lärchenweg from Ackerstraße northwards to the Dachau urban area.
But there are two main points that stand against its realization: On the one hand, the municipality would have to acquire a relatively large amount of land, and on the other, it is unclear how the B 471 could be crossed under.
The underpass on Langwieder Straße is simply not suitable for cyclists.
Günther Rustler, a specialist in traffic in Karlsfeld's town hall, summarized the results of the investigation: “Such a cycle path connection is likely to fail due to the costs of purchasing the land, the underpass and the expansion.” It would seem “not sensible” to pursue the project.
Karlsfeld will therefore concentrate on the variant with a bicycle street on Alte Bayernwerkstrasse.
The road would be closed to through traffic if the bicycle road is realized.
Cars are not allowed to drive faster than 30 on cycle streets, and cycle traffic should not be hindered there.
Bicycle consultant Franz Trinkl hopes that it will be implemented: "That would be an important component in getting more people onto bicycles."
