Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the importance of establishing security and stability in Afghanistan, pointing out that the return of the Taliban movement to power in this country has become a fait accompli.

In his speech today, at the start of the launch of the "Moscow Formula" talks on Afghanistan in Moscow, Lavrov made it clear that the basic condition for achieving this goal is the formation of an inclusive government in reality that will fully reflect the interests of all political and social forces in the country.

Lavrov pointed out that al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorist organizations are again trying to use the instability in Afghanistan to carry out terrorist acts in various parts of the country, stressing that Russia discussed with the Taliban delegation the need for the movement to strictly adhere to the approach aimed at preventing any party from exploiting the territory of Afghanistan against interests of other countries.

Lavrov also expressed Russia's hope that the United States would maintain its readiness to work actively regarding the situation in Afghanistan, expressing regret that Washington did not participate in the current session of talks.

The “Moscow Formula” meeting will be held in the Russian capital, with the participation of representatives from Russia, Iran, Pakistan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, in addition to a delegation from the Taliban movement.
