Residents of the Middle Arava Regional Council were alarmed to see a poster in Arabic, hanging among red balloons, in the depths of the field in one of the moshavim.

A council security officer was called to the scene, hurried to inspect the suspect area, and was happy to reassure residents that this was not a security threat, but a poster hung in honor of an Egyptian army officer who had died.



The IDF forces that arrived at the scene conducted a security check on the balloon, and video that no flammable or explosive material was found in it. After the inspection, they confirmed that it was not an incendiary balloon.

"There is no fear and no danger to the residents and farmers," Uri Lev told the residents of the regional council, adding that an IDF force was on the scene.

Lev noted that an inspection conducted at the site revealed that the balloons and the poster, which originated in Egypt, were in honor of a senior Egyptian army officer who died - Mahmoud 'Abd al-Gafar, who was killed in an ambush in Sinai on September 30, 2020.
