From October 11 to 18, the DAB used physical and online questionnaires to interview 939 people, targeting all citizens of Hong Kong, but most of the respondents were residents of New Territories North.
The results showed that about 84% of the interviewees supported the "Northern Metropolis Development Strategy" proposed by the Chief Executive in the policy address; 82% of the interviewees agreed with the railway plan in the "Development Strategy", which would help improve traffic in the New Territories; 63 % Of respondents believe that they or their family members will benefit from about 650,000 new jobs after the completion of the development of the "Northern Metropolis"; 63% of the respondents expect the entire "Northern Metropolis" to be developed within 10 years.
In addition, 66% of the interviewees said that they did not worry that the "development strategy" might involve many large-scale infrastructure investments, and did not think it would affect government finances; 71% of the interviewees agreed that after the completion of the development of the "Northern Metropolis", the entire district is expected to The addition of more than 500,000 residential units can help solve the housing problem in Hong Kong; 82% of the respondents believe that the "development strategy" will speed up the connection and close interaction between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, which is a good thing for individuals.
The DAB pointed out that the results show that the vast majority of citizens support the development of New Territories North into a new center. The government needs to make every effort to develop the northern metropolitan area as soon as possible to respond to the expectations of the public.
They also mentioned that the northern metropolitan area is the future of Hong Kong. The five new railways planned in the area are particularly important to drive the development of the metropolitan area. The current railway development timetable must be accelerated.
