Damascus countryside-SANA
The towns of Assal al-Ward and Sasa' in Damascus countryside have operated 3 drinking water wells on solar energy, with the support of the civil society, in order to ensure the continuation of water pumping and delivery to homes.
From the Assal Al-Ward water unit between “Hoshan Khalouf”, in a statement to SANA, 256 solar panels were installed on two wells with an estimated capacity of 60 horsepower to ensure continuity of pumping to the town.
Ten wells are distributed in the town of Assal al-Ward, three of which run on electricity, two on solar energy, and five that are stopped due to the lack of electricity and fuel oil, according to “Khallouf,” who confirmed efforts to operate them on solar energy.
In Sa’sa’, 48 solar panels were installed on one of the wells to run on solar energy, according to the head of the local council, engineer “Nidal Muhammad Al-Hallaj,” who indicated that after installing the pumps on the well and operating them, the water reached all the homes.
Al-Hallaj pointed out that solar-powered lighting lamps have been installed in part of the town's streets, and there is a plan to complete the lighting of the entire main street and sub-lanes.
Al-Hallaj indicated that the entire sewage network maintenance project for the town was completed with the support of the Damascus Countryside Governorate, and the town council allocated 25 million pounds to equip the infrastructure of the town's stadium.
