A 20-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident in Kiel on Wednesday night.
The man wanted to cross the B76 at Eckernförde Landstrasse and was hit by a car, said a police spokesman.
He was brought to the University Clinic in Kiel with very serious injuries.
The federal highway was closed to the south for around three hours.
Kiel - Why the man wanted to illegally cross the B76 at this point was initially unclear.
The road has four lanes at this point and the directional lanes are separated by a central guardrail.
