Breitbrunn

- The comparatively young church has made headlines since it was built. At that time Johann Greimel was mayor of the still independent community Breitbrunn, his nephew Jakob Schrafstetter church caretaker. Greimel's son, the building contractor Hans Ulrich Greimel, was 29 years old at the time and chairman of the parish council. He recorded the creation, groundbreaking, laying of the foundation stone and consecration with his film camera. He now had Paul Denzler cut these old recordings together and added music and text to them. Barbara Suchewirth put Greimel's extensive information on this into words. Greimel was able to win the Breitbrunn broadcaster Andi Wenzel as a speaker. The result, a film lecture entitled "The tent of hikers in this world", is on Friday, October 22nd,at 7 p.m. in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche.

Greimel still vividly remembers the time when the old church of St. John Baptist became too small and the search for a location for a new church began. The cheap Breitbrunn family initially donated a piece of land for this purpose right next to the cemetery. The house architects of the monastery had suggested a location on the Bichlberg. Later, at the instigation of the Billigs, an exchange with the final building site on Schulstrasse took place.

The Weilheim architect Theo Wieland emerged as the winner of an architectural competition with his “Tent of God”. A plan that not only inspired cartoonists like Ernst Hürlimann. At that time he wrote under his drawing: "If the a church is to be, na bin i da Pharao." The planning also provoked criticism from the population and the authorities. After all, the height of the tent roof was originally set at 42 meters, but after a phantom scaffolding was set up, it was first screwed down to 33 and finally to 22.50 meters. A hall under the church and a parsonage were also deleted, instead the church with the spacious church space was to become a multi-purpose church. An idea that the leading pastor of the Ammersee-Ost parish community, Dean Simon Rapp,in the argument about the recent renovation - namely to create a cultural church.

In particular, the erection of the tent roof, which is held together by the laminated girders that caused the three-year closure, was an event for the Breitbrunners. Two huge roof areas each for the east and west sides and one each for the north and south turned the church into the impressive “tent of God” planned by the architect, which rests on only two concrete foundations. With Theo Wieland of all people, there was another “tinder” at the end, according to Greimel. The architect was able to inspire the artist Fritz Winter from Dießen for the interior design of the church. But because the church administration would rather invest money in an organ than in a 30,000 mark painting on the south wall, Wieland and Winter stayed away from the consecration. The final artistic design of the prefabricated concrete walls was not transferred to the artist and priest Franz Höchstötter until 1995.

On October 24, 1971 the church was opened by Bishop Dr.

Josef Stimpfle handed over to his appointment, at that time belonging to the parish of Hechendorf.

Much has changed since then - Breitbrunn first became an independent parish in 2000, today it belongs to the Ammersee-Ost parish community.

Many Breitbrunners may still have the pictures that Greimel captured with the cine camera back then in their heads.

If not, the eventful history of the house of God can be wonderfully refreshed through the film.

The ordination service on Sunday is held by Vicar General Domdekan Msgr.

Wolfgang Hacker celebrates.

Afterwards, the parish of Breitbrunn invites you to a festive reception.
