Another explosion between politics and justice in France.
On October 19, Benjamin Blanchet, who presides over the hearing of the so-called Elysee polls trial, requested the arrival on November 2 of Nicolas Sarkozy, if necessary
"by the police"
, for a hearing as a witness.
Quoted on October 7 by the Anticor association, civil party, the former head of state had already refused this deposition.
In an unprecedented decision, the court forced him to do so, deeming it
"necessary for the manifestation of the truth
".
The former head of state is not being prosecuted in this case, because he is covered by presidential immunity.
An immunity which, during the mandate of the Head of State, is both functional and personal, therefore covering both acts performed as President of the Republic and as a citizen.
