Thousands of Sparkasse customers have received postponement of loan repayments because of the Corona crisis, according to the industry association.
At its peak, the savings banks deferred loans amounting to 1.7 billion euros, said a spokesman for the Sparkassenverband Baden-Württemberg (SVBW) on the occasion of the Sparkasse Day in Ulm on Wednesday.
Together with the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, around 8,100 promotional loans with a volume of 2.2 billion euros have been brokered since March 2020.
Ulm - SVBW President Peter Schneider emphasized that times of crisis are times of savings banks.
The savings banks would not only have guaranteed the supply of cash, but also secured the solvency of the economy and thus prevented worse as the main financier of the middle class.
