Saxony should be a cross-border hotspot for mountain bikers in Germany by 2030.
The Free State wants to "play in a league like Graubünden, Scotland or Sölden," said Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU) on Wednesday in Dresden.
The low mountain range provides the best conditions for this, as the successes of the Stoneman Miriquidi in Annaberg-Buchholz, the TrailCenter Rabenberg or the Bikewelt Schöneck have shown so far.
Dresden - "I see great opportunities for rural areas in particular to become centers for nature-based and fitness-oriented tourism," said Klepsch.
Attractive and cross-border mountain bike routes supplemented the offer for year-round tourism in the region "and offer an alternative to snow-bound winter tourism".
An advice center and a manual help regions and municipalities to develop projects that make nature and culture tangible at the same time and protect them through targeted visitor guidance.
Existing infrastructures such as ski lifts and sights are to be integrated, and restaurants and hotels are to be used along and in the vicinity of the routes.

From the ministry's point of view, the Ore Mountains, Vogtland, Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland, Lusatian Mountains and Lusatian Lake District are particularly suitable for mountain bike projects that extend into the neighboring countries of the Czech Republic and Poland.
As part of the large cross-border mountain bike region on the border with the Czech Republic, Saxony wants to help shape the future of this tourism in Central Europe.
