Norderstedt - While the corona pandemic had leveled off at a constant level in the past few weeks, the RKI reported a sudden surge in infections and the seven-day incidence on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.

Nursing homes and old people's homes are also struggling with rising numbers.

Dozens of residents have now become infected in two clinics in Germany, and several people have already died despite being vaccinated.

As a spokeswoman for the district administration confirmed to the dpa on Wednesday, a 95-year-old resident died after a corona outbreak in a senior citizen and nursing home in Norderstedt in Schleswig-Holstein.

Another resident of the facility had been taken to a clinic.

The outbreak in the nursing and retirement home was made public on Monday.

A total of 76 residents live in the facility, currently 60 of them have been infected with the corona virus.

Many of them with no or only mild symptoms.

According to official information, 19 of the around 70 employees at the facility were infected with the virus.

But some are not vaccinated.

Care facility in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also has numerous infected people - and six deaths

There is currently a similar outbreak in a care facility in Bad Doberan in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

According to official information, 66 of a total of 83 residents in the facility have so far tested positive for the corona virus.

In the past two weeks, a total of six residents had died in connection with a corona infection.

Of the around 60 nurses, 35 have been shown to have been infected with the virus.

The managing director of the facility confirmed this to the dpa.

According to this, the vaccination rate for residents of the nursing home is currently 94 percent, and the vaccination rate for employees is around 70 percent.
