The second highest office in terms of protocol is to be held by a woman in future: The SPD wants to nominate health politician Bärbel Bas for the office of President of the Bundestag.

But what about the number 1?

The possibly future traffic light alliance presented itself as a potential »coalition of progress« during the exploratory talks.

Wouldn't a woman in Bellevue Palace be an expression of this progress?

However, long before the federal election, the incumbent Frank-Walter Steinmeier declared that he would like to continue when the Federal Assembly meets in February to elect the Federal President.

Can his SPD reject that?

In fact, a majority of Germans would welcome Steinmeier's re-election: 58 percent are positive about Steinmeier.

This was the result of a survey by the opinion research institute Civey for SPIEGEL.

The desire for a second term in office is most widespread among supporters of the SPD, but Steinmeier also does very well among sympathizers of the Greens and the Union parties.

There is not much difference between men and women either: 58 and 57 percent respectively welcome Steinmeier's re-election.

Again and again, Green Party leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt is traded as a possible Federal President.

The coalition negotiations of your party with the SPD and FDP could further these considerations.

According to the survey, however, only one in five would welcome Göring-Eckardt's election as Federal President, 68 percent say they are negative.

Such a consideration finds a majority among supporters of the Greens alone.

When it comes to Göring-Eckardt's presidency, there is hardly any difference between women and men.

If the Bundestag election were again next Sunday, the SPD would continue to do best.

The Union parties stick to the 20 percent mark, the Greens and FDP are fighting for third place.
