It is still open whether there will be another Starnberg Ice Magic in January.

There was a 6-6 stalemate in the main and finance committee on Monday.

Now the city council has to decide.

Starnberg

- Anyone who wants to see whether the skates still fit and the runners are sharpened should be patient - at least when it comes to the Starnberg Ice Magic. Although the main and finance committee of the city council should have decided on Monday evening on the event from January 14th to February 6th, 2022, there were also two votes, but both ended with a 6-6 stalemate. Now Mayor Patrick Janik wants to let the city council decide, which will meet next Monday, October 25th (7 p.m., Schlossberghalle).

"If larger events are allowed to take place in January, the ice magic could take place in compliance with a suitable hygiene concept," emphasized the responsible official Sarah Buckel on Monday. "We have an entrance area and checkouts where we can control 3G and collect contact information," she said. With a view to the pandemic, there are “no major problems”.

But Buckel also stated that the ice magic introduced in 2013 is a subsidy business for the city. “Although in recent years we have always tried to use all potential savings, there was an annual deficit of around 50,000 to 60,000 euros.” Apart from perimeter advertising, tickets and ice skate rental, no further income could be generated. According to the meeting draft, Buckel even considered a deficit of more than 60,000 euros to be possible for the January / February event if the maximum number of people who are allowed to stay on the ice surface should be limited due to Corona requirements. So far, the record number of visitors to Eiszauber has been around 8,000 users.

CSU parliamentary group leader Thomas Beigel, after all financial advisor to the city council, was not alarmed by the numbers. "I support the ice magic, even if the costs are not small," he said. The ice magic is a good offer to liven up the city center. His parliamentary colleague Ludwig Jägerhuber made a similar statement. "We need such anchors that bring people to Starnberg," he emphasized. Marc Fiedler (FDP) saw on the one hand a financial risk, but on the other hand also an "added value for the people". The ice magic on the church square is just right to bring life to the city. "Sports and cultural events are always subsidized," said Winfried Wobbe (UWG).

There were reservations from the other groups. Michael Mignoli (BLS) the risk was too great in view of a "second winter of the pandemic". “We don't know what we're getting into,” he said, but also admitted that we would “be happy” to be there again next year. Kerstin Täubner-Benicke (Greens) the deficit was too high. For 60,000 euros, a cultural program in the station building on the lake is the better alternative. Should there still be a majority in favor of the Eiszauber, "I would like to ask you not to discuss subsidies for social institutions any more," she emphasized. Christiane Falk (SPD) even questioned the whole concept. “I think the ice magic is no longer up-to-date and ecologically incorrect,” she said. The ice rink just uses too much energy.

Patrick Janik initially put a vote on the proposal to organize the ice magic.

He himself, the CSU, FDP and UWG were in favor, the Greens, SPD, BMS and WPS (neither faction had spoken in the discussion) against.

Because Stefan Kandler (BMS) was absent, the vote went 6: 6, which means that the proposal was rejected.

The vote on alternative two, not to let the ice magic take place, consequently also ended 6: 6.

Sequel follows.
