The cult disco is back

2021-10-20T06:04:47.608Z

Igling - The time has come on November 27th: the institution “Sommerkeller” will open its doors again - if everything goes according to plan. After the nightclub experienced a huge number of visitors in the 80s and 90s, fewer guests have recently come. Due to the pandemic, the summer cellar also had to temporarily close due to the corona. And the death of the former tenant Niki Amberger last year then caused the complete closure. So that the gem does not go under, the restaurateurs Claus Moritz from Landsberg and Stefan Egger from Dießen have taken over the disco. And after extensive renovation work, the crowds are expected to flock again every Saturday evening from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from November 27th.

And after extensive renovation work, the crowds will again flock every Saturday evening from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from November 27th.

Last Tuesday, a change to the “summer cellar” development plan was on the agenda of the Iglingen municipal council. This change was requested by the owner of the property, Count Dominique von Maldeghem. It was about a building permit for storage rooms on the site. There had previously been buildings - not anchored in the building plan - that have now all been demolished. In addition, he subsequently applied for the building permit for the log cabin that is already on the summer cellar site - originally a garden shed that Amberger has continued to expand. Above all, it served to entertain the guests of the flea markets. The procedure to change the construction plan has now been started, said von Maldeghem.

The approval of these changes are not decisive for the opening of the summer cellar, clarifies Egger, who is the owner of the summer cellar together with Claus Moritz. Everything is in the towel. “We will definitely be finished by November 27th.” Until then, a lot had been rebuilt, renovated and repaired. The biggest chunk was the new ventilation system, reports Egger. The Austrian DJ, who also owns the PM in Untermeitingen, knows that the former system was not “discotheque-compliant”. Especially not corona compliant. In addition, the water and power lines were renovated. Some of the lines were not even winter-proof.

And the additions already mentioned had to be torn down because they did not comply with the regulations.

Escape routes and fire protection guidelines also had to be taken into account.

New toilets were installed.

And the outside lighting is also ready for the plans of the two restaurateurs.

“That was a mega project,” says Egger.

But now nothing stands in the way of the operating license.

The conversion and renovation cost a good 250,000 euros.

When it comes to the concept, Moritz and Egger rely on the tried and tested: “The summer cellar is an old cult discotheque and should open as it used to be.

Rocky, groovy, a bit alternative.

We want to and we will continue the program, ”the DJ describes the plans.

In the 'new' summer cellar, however, there will be more space: the various interior rooms currently have space for 1,500 people.

And there should be as many people again on the outside area.

From metal to hits

The disco is divided into five areas: There is the main room, in which, as in the past, mainly rock and pop from the 80s and 90s will be played. There will be hits in the barn, “party music”, says Egger. A smaller room is now called "Metal-Rock" - although the name speaks for the program, with excursions into hard rock. But there is also a modern new building, which the two new owners call "Waldwerk": a bit more 'clinical', more trendy. Accordingly, Moritz and Egger plan to have more up-to-date music played there, the charts or even house and club sound. Accordingly, the new owners expect a younger audience, the 18 to 25 year olds. In general, however, the “summer cellar” will also appeal to the elderly: “The 30-year-olds and older, happily 50 plus”, hopes Egger. Who wants to smokecan do that in the now nicely lit garden. For the coming summer, which will hopefully be less rainy, Moritz and Egger are planning a kind of outdoor festival on the site. A rock festival, one with hits, to attract guests even in the warm season and to be able to make the most of the space.

"We already have a great response," says Egger happily.

Many of the former DJs have already asked when they can finally play again in the summer cellar.

The former staff have also already contacted them.

And not to forget the many regular guests who were already looking forward to the opening.
