The Directorate of Scientific Laboratories “Mineral Restoration Laboratory” in the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums has completed the restoration of a group of archaeological finds dating back to different historical periods.
These finds include ornaments, rings, bracelets, earrings, a set of military tools and metal pieces including spears, swords, metal spears, and coins dating back to the ancient, classical and Islamic eras.
The restoration work, according to a statement that SANA received a copy of, included cleaning, treating and maintaining antiquities, including five pieces from the exhibits of the National Museum in Damascus, the Classical Antiquities Department, consisting of a wide iron cleaver showing traces of rust, an iron ax, a bronze ladle, a small flask and a bronze scroll, all dating back to the classical period.
The pieces were documented in all their stages and isolated with special materials to preserve them from the effects of various weather factors, in addition to the restoration of metal pieces of various uses, estimated at about 200 pieces with varying cases of damage, which were handed over to the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.
It is noteworthy that the Metal Restoration Laboratory carried out, during the past year, restoration and maintenance works for various metal pieces belonging to the National Museum in all its departments.
