The Biden government and the Israeli government are expected to form a joint team that will conduct discreet negotiations in an attempt to resolve the dispute over the American plan to reopen the consulate in Jerusalem - Walla Walla said today (Wednesday)!

Senior Israeli officials involved in the issue.

The US Consulate in Jerusalem has been in charge of relations with the Palestinian Authority for 25 years, before being closed by the Trump administration in 2019. The reopening of the consulate is a hot political potato that could undermine the coalition.

President Biden told Prime Minister Naftali Bennett during their August meeting that he would not abandon his intention to reopen the consulate in Jerusalem, especially in light of the fact that it was an election promise.

The Americans responded to the Israeli request to wait with the move until after the budget was transferred in early November, but the dispute over the matter could lead to tensions between the White House and the Prime Minister's Office.

The issue of the reopening of the US Consulate came up during a meeting between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Secretary of State Yair Lapid in Washington last Wednesday.

Israeli officials said Lapid told Blinken at the meeting that reopening the consulate would most likely lead to the fall of the government.

"I do not know how to hold the coalition together if you open the consulate," Lapid told Blinken.

The U.S. Secretary of State said he understood the political sensitivity but stressed that the United States wanted to open a dialogue with Israel to find a solution to the dispute. From quiet without leaks to a satisfactory solution.

Lapid accepted the offer in the affirmative, but requested that talks on the issue begin only after the budget was transferred.

The Lapid bureau said that no team had been set up for talks at this time with the Americans regarding the consulate.

"The foreign minister opposes the opening of the American consulate in Jerusalem and he made this clear at all his meetings in Washington," the Lapid bureau said.

A U.S. State Department spokesman said: "We have nothing new to say on this matter."
